It is the official language of South and North Korea, and Korean speakers are scattered all over the globe: the Korean minority lives mainly in the US, China, Japan and Russia. Although Korean is heavily influenced by Chinese, its origin continues to be debated. Currently, it is most often classified as an isolated language, i.e. one that does not belong to any language group and is not related to other languages. It has quite a few regional dialects, and the main differences occur between the North Korean and the South Korean variety. Although it is still a relatively unpopular language in Poland, there is a growing interest in learning Korean among young people, and some Polish universities already offer Korean studies.
