About 9 million people speak Swedish: they are mainly residents of Sweden, but also Finland (where Swedish has the status of an official language). It is more or less understandable for Norwegians and Danes, and its standard form is based on the dialects of the Stockholm region. In Poland, Swedish is becoming more and more popular; it is on offer in many language schools, and more and more universities are launching Swedish language programs and major courses in Swedish.
