Sworn translations

The essence of a sworn translation is the stamp and signature of a translator who has the necessary qualifications to give translations legal validity. Therefore, sworn translations are mainly required for documents which are to be submitted before public administration bodies or used in court proceedings.

Sworn translators and interpreters are not only skilled in the languages they are certified in but also have a thorough knowledge of the legal systems of both countries, which is essential for a proper understanding and use of the specialist terminology in sworn translations. Translators’ abilities and knowledge are put to the test during a state examination which must be successfully passed for a translator to be entered in the list of sworn translators kept by Poland’s Ministry of Justice. From that point on, the translator becomes a government official and is authorised to confirm the content of the translated documents as legally valid. The presence of sworn interpreters is also necessary during court proceedings or when notarial deeds are being drafted.

What do you gain?

  • Translations are carried out only by translators who are entered in the list of sworn translators kept by Poland’s Ministry of Justice
  • Translations are done only by specialists in the field
  • Translations are protected by a professional liability insurance policy and a confidentiality agreement
  • Translations may be delivered directly to the client

Sworn translations vs. specialised translations

Sworn translations are different from specialised translations. If the text is not intended to be submitted to a court or used for official purposes, there is no point in ordering a sworn translation. Alingua translators who deal with specialised texts have the necessary knowledge and experience to ensure the highest quality translations in their respective fields of expertise. The only difference is that sworn translators are able to certify their translations and thus give them legal validity. If you are unsure about which type of translation you need, contact our Customer Support, and we will be happy to advise you.

Sworn translations – prices and other useful information

For sworn translations, the basis for settlement is a target page of 1125 characters including spaces (in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Justice of January 24, 2005 on the remuneration of sworn translators). These characters include the descriptions of the stamps and other elements on the physical page, and this may significantly affect the final character count and the price of the translation. The price also depends on the language – the rate will certainly be lower for translations from English and German than translations carried out from more exotic languages. All Alingua translations are protected by a confidentiality agreement and a professional liability insurance policy. Regular Alingua clients are offered preferential rates for sworn translations. Our clients can also request that their translations are delivered to a specific address.
