Portuguese

Although Poland and Portugal are separated by thousands of kilometres, we have one thing in common: a ‘rustling’ language. This is where the linguistic similarities end, since Portuguese belongs to the Romance language group. Despite its close similarities with Spanish, it doesn’t match it in popularity among foreigners, at least in terms of learning it as a foreign language. However, it has quite an impressive geographical spread, which is the result of the Portuguese colonial empire. It is the official language not only in Portugal, but also in Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, and a few other countries in Africa and Asia. At this point, it should be noted that there are two main variants of Portuguese: European and Brazilian, which differ significantly in terms of phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary.

Portuguese translations in business

The most recognisable Portuguese company on the Polish market is definitely Jerónimo Martins, owner of the nationwide chain of Biedronka stores as well as Hebe drugstores. Other well known companies with Portuguese capital include, among others, Millennium bank, clothing and accessories manufacturer Parfois, construction company Mota-Engil or the Eurocash group, which manages retail chains. Polish companies in Portugal operate mainly in IT, e-banking, energy, construction, agriculture and cosmetics industries. In recent years, the increasing popularity of the Portuguese cuisine in Poland results in the growing interest of food products and alcoholic beverages from Portugal, as well as handicraft – especially cork products. With the popularisation of remote working and digital nomadism, Polish people are also more interested in buying properties in Portugal.

When dealing with Portuguese entrepreneurs, contractors or clients, a language barrier should be taken into account, as a command of English is much less common there than in Poland. To ensure smooth collaboration, it is worth choosing a proven translation service provider. Our extensive experience guarantees that each translation entrusted to us will be assigned to a specialist who will take care of the appropriate form of the final text.

Specialised Portuguese translations

We are aware that every industry has its own rules: a scientific text requires a completely different approach than technical or medical content. When processing orders, high quality is our priority, and we commission the translation of specialised contents to the translators with relevant experience and professional education. The most common Portuguese translations ordered at Alingua include the translation of documentation, certificates and instructions for the technology industry, translations of safety data sheets for construction, chemical, food and cosmetics companies, as well as medical and pharmaceutical translations. We also offer sworn translations from and into Portuguese.

Comprehensive translation services – professional translations and more

To ensure top-notch customer service and the security of the texts entrusted to us, we regularly adapt our procedures to the current ISO standards concerning quality and information security. Working with memoQ software allows us to maintain the terminological consistency of our translations. Moreover, our offer is not limited to translation only. Our additional language services include, among others, proofreading, editing by a native speaker of Portuguese, and localisation, i.e. adjusting the translation to the needs of the target audience. We recommend these services for promotional materials in particular, e.g. those intended for a website – a text prepared in such a way will sound completely natural to the reader, who might not even realise that they are dealing with a translation.
